More about Alan Jay Lerner
Alan Jay Lerner (August 31, 1918 – June 14, 1986) was an American lyricist and librettist known for his collaboration with Frederick Loewe, and later Burton Lane, creating some of the most popular works in musical theatre. He won three Tony Awards and three Academy Awards. Lerner was born in New York City to Edith Adelson Lerner and Joseph Jay Lerner. Despite an eye injury at Harvard, which led to loss of sight in his left eye, he found his calling in musical theater. His partnerships with Loewe and others led to iconic productions such as 'My Fair Lady' and 'Camelot'. Lerner's work endured through the 20th century, earning him a place in the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1971.
