More about Wojciech Widłak
Born in 1971, Krakow, Poland. Composer, music critic, organist, teacher (Academy of Music in Krakow). From 1990 till 1996 he studied composition with Marek Stachowski and organ with Jan Jargon at the Academy of Music in Krakow. Later he studied composition with Hans Abrahamsen at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen (Denmark). He participated in many composers' workshops and courses, such as the Summer School New techniques of composition, 2001, Ohrid (Macedonia). His compositions were awarded at 1st Competition for Young Composers in Sanok (1992), International Competition for Organ-Concert in Cracow (1996), 2nd Competition for Young Composers Musica Sacra in Warsaw (1996), Tadeusz Baird Competition for Young Composers in Warsaw (1998), SZSU International Composers' Competition for Male Choir Work in Banska Bystrzyca (2003, Slovakia). His creative output is very large, he is the author of symphonic, chamber, vocal and solo works performed in Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Germany, Great Britain, France, Netherlands, Russia, Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, Slovakia, Macedonia, Belarus, USA, Japan. He is a member of the Society of Polish Composers, a member of European Composers Informal Meeting (since its beginning in 1998), a member of Polish Society of Church Music Performers, a co-ordinator of European Composers Informal Meeting – Cracow 2001, a member of Committee for Church Music of Cracow's Archidiocese. From 2020, prof. Wojciech Widłak is the rector of the Academy of Music in Krakow.
