Sigfrid Karg-Elert, born on November 21, 1877, in Oberndorf am Neckar, was a pivotal German composer known for his organ and harmonium compositions. A Leipzig Conservatory alumnus, Karg-Elert was influenced by Edvard Grieg and devoted himself to composing primarily for piano before his extensive output for harmonium. His innovative works experienced neglect in Germany but gained admiration abroad. Afflicted by diabetes, he died on April 9, 1933, in Leipzig, leaving a lasting imprint on 20th-century music.
