Marius Flothuis, born on 30 October 1914 and died on 13 November 2001, was a Dutch composer, musicologist, and music critic. He first studied piano and music theory, followed by musicology at the University of Amsterdam. Flothuis became the assistant artistic director of the Concertgebouw orchestra and was interrupted by WWII for standing against the occupying Germans. Post-war, he served in various capacities such as librarian, music critic, and as the Concertgebouw's artistic director. He was also a professor and president of Zentral Institut für Mozart-Forschung in Salzburg. An expert on Mozart, Flothuis also composed over a hundred works, inspired by French composers like Debussy and Ravel, conveying classical balance in his music.
