Kele Okereke, born on 13 October 1981 in Liverpool, is an English singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the indie rock band Bloc Party. Of Nigerian descent, he was raised Catholic in Edinburgh and London and studied English literature at King's College London. Bloc Party gained prominence with their debut album 'Silent Alarm' in 2005. Okereke has also released several solo albums, addressing themes ranging from personal to political. In March 2010, he came out as gay, showcasing his identity openly in the media.
