Jon Lord was an English keyboardist and composer, born on 9 June 1941 in Leicester. Co-founding the hard rock band Deep Purple in 1968, his innovative work, blending rock with classical music, was crucial to the band's success and the early development of heavy metal. Lord's distinctive organ sounds were a signature element of Deep Purple's music. He also contributed to bands like Whitesnake and Paice Ashton Lord, and his recognition included inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Lord retained a lifelong connection with Leicester, where he was encouraged to pursue music from a young age.
