Carlos Guastavino

Carlos Guastavino (1912-2000) was a prominent Argentine composer dubbed 'the Schubert of the Pampas'. His oeuvre exceeds 500 compositions, predominantly songs for piano and voice. His style, rooted in Argentine folk music, remained tonal and lushly romantic throughout his career. Works like 'Pueblito, mi pueblo', 'La rosa y el sauce', and 'Se equivocó la paloma' are among his beloved national favorites. Guastavino managed to sustain himself financially through his music, a rarity among composers.
